Mama COVID-19 Updates
COVID-19 Update 4/10/20:
Hi again! Just wanted to send a quick reminder that we will have no-contact pick up hours on Saturday from 1 to 3 during our Heartsong Herbs medicinal plant sale pick ups. Please place your order by noon on Friday to ensure it will be ready for you to grab on Saturday. You will receive a confirmation email with details about the pick up.
Speaking of plants, I don’t know about you, but I CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on these amazing plants and get them in the ground. The importance and significance of growing my own medicine has never seemed as urgent as does now.
COVID-19 Update 4/7/20:
Dear Friends and Fans of Mama,
We wanted to let you know that the pickup for the Medicinal Plant sale has changed to this Saturday, April 11th behind our Avondale store from 1 to 3pm. We can’t think of a better time to grow your own medicine in your backyard and Heartsong Herbs still has some plants available to order here: https://www.heartsongherbs.com/plant-shop
Unfortunately, given the current circumstances, she will not be bringing additional plants to buy on the day. And we will be doing a no contact pick-up, FYI.
As an added bonus since we’ll be here for the plant sale pick up, we are also extending our Mama purchase (no-contact) pick-up hours to include this Saturday between 1 and 3, for those of you who haven’t been able to make it during the week. Please place your order by this Friday at noon to ensure it will be ready for you to pick up on Saturday, and Abby will send you further instructions.
I sincerely can’t thank you enough for all of your orders and warm words and support. Our community has really shown up for us during this unprecedented situation and it means so much to me. I really appreciate you all!!
COVID-19 Update 3/31/20:
Dear Friends and Fans of Mama,
We got great response about offering local delivery, so we have decided to give it a try! For now, we are going to start with the zip codes 30002, 30030 and 30317 and will charge $2.95 per delivery. If we can manage that, we will think about adding more.
Because there were a few people who said they are missing the local pickup option and don’t live in our delivery zone, we have decided we will work with those folks on a safe, no contact pickup at our production facility. We’ve come up with some very specific protocols for that, so you can email Abby at firstname.lastname@example.org to make these arrangements.
We want to continue to be a reliable source for your soap and herbal needs over these next weeks and months, so if you have any questions or need special considerations, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We really appreciate all of your support and feedback.
Please stay safe and wash your hands!
P.S. We *finally* got our hands on some organic elderberries, so bulk elderberries and elderberry kits will be back in stock soon. Hopefully later this week!
COVID-19 Update 3/27/20:
Dear Friends and Fans of Mama,
Something that has been on my mind a lot since we got wind that an unknown virus was heading our way is that I need to help my family build our immunity. Avoidance is ideal, but the numbers (and quite frankly, the decisions of our government) are likely going to expose many of us to this thing at some point. So my strategy has been to take full advantage of plant medicine to help prep our immune systems for the challenge of an unknown virus, so that if we do get it, we hopefully won't tax our overburdened medical facilities.
My family has always washed our hands a lot, and we took Elderberry Syrup and Fire Cider all winter and managed to avoid getting the flu, even when there was a friend's child in our house who tested positive. And these are only two herbal concoctions of so many different herbs that help boost your immunity and improve your overall health. There's a lot we don't know yet about this virus, and different bodies need different kinds of support. But prevention in general is where these wonderful plants get to shine.
To help share this information, we've created a section on our website dedicated to COVID-19 information and resources. This will house all of our updates about what we're doing as a business, some helpful links to read with safety and herbal resources from sources we trust, and a list of tinctures and tonics we stock that help build immunity.
We are also considering adding local, no-contact, porch drop-off delivery as an option. We want to continue to serve our community while keeping everyone at home, especially since the items we sell are so important in taking care of your health. We would serve the ZIP codes around our Avondale store (30002, 30030, and 30317 to start) and would charge a nominal fee. Maybe $2.95 or something like that.
Does this interest you? If so, please reply to this email, and let us know! If we get enough interest, we will roll this out next week. We have also lowered our free-shipping to orders of $50 or more.
Please continue to stay home, stay safe, and wash your hands!
COVID-19 Update 3/25/20:
First of all, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support this past week, as we work to navigate this new world we have quickly found ourselves in. Your purchases and well wishes have meant so much to our little company. The best way you can continue to support us (and all of the other small businesses like us who are struggling with our public spaces closed for the foreseeable future) is to continue to patronize our businesses. According to the CDC, washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is the #1 best way to prevent a virus, even over hand sanitizer! So here at Mama, we feel we have an important role in virus prevention and public health given that we are, first and foremost, a soap company. We also have our full selection of bulk organic herbs, teas and tinctures on our website while the stores are closed.
To encourage compliance with The City of Atlanta's 14-day stay-at-home order that starts today, our retail stores will stay closed and we are stopping the local pickup option until further notice. Our business is considered an "essential business," so we will continue to ship products and herbs (and we are keeping our local post office personnel stocked in soap!).
You can also follow us on Social Media (@mamabathandbody on Instagram and Facebook) for the most up-to-date info.
We hope you stay safe and please wash your hands!
P.S. One last note is to let you know that you can expect to hear from us more frequently than usual and we hope that is OK. Since we are going to be an online business until further notice, we want to share with you all of the great products we have on our website as well as a bunch of new ones we are about to release.
COVID-19 Update 3/17/20:
Dear friends, fans, and patrons of Mama,
In light of what we know about COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to close our retail stores for the next 2 weeks. It was a challenging and costly choice, but it is important to us that we are on the right side of helping to flatten the curve. We are hoping other businesses will soon follow suit (many already are) so that we can minimize the amount of time we all have to be closed. And we would really appreciate if our state and/or federal government would show some solidarity and put some mandatory measures into place to help speed this quarantine period along.
My main focus in the meantime is to figure out how to keep the business afloat and our employees paid in the safest and most responsible way during this unknown time. This is going to hit small businesses hard, and some won’t come back from this depending on how long it goes on. My goal is to not let that not be us. My mission and purpose for this business has become a lot more clear in the last few weeks, realizing that what we offer are more than products that smell good and feel good; they are products that can help prevent the spread of communicable diseases and empower people take care of themselves. This is a mission that is worth fighting for.
Here’s our current plan for the next 2 weeks:
1. Our Avondale and Krog Street Market retail stores will be closed until March 29th or until we get new information.
2. Our retail staff will stay home and be paid for their scheduled hours through March 29th.
3. We will continue to accept and ship online orders, including the option of free local pickup during certain hours in the parking lot outside of our production facility (which is behind our Avondale store).
4. Abby (our operations manager), Rae (our production manager) and myself will be working limited hours in our production building to expedite web orders and keep making products. The 3 of us have been practicing social distancing and good hygiene at our homes and consider ourselves a closed loop. We are sanitizing and taking all precautions in the production facility, including washing our hands regularly and all packages will be packed and sent with the utmost care. In addition, no one else will be allowed access to our production facility until further notice.
5. We have added our entire selection of bulk herbs, teas and tinctures to our website during this quarantine period. We want to make sure our customers who count on us for these important wellness items still have access to everything you need.
The best way you can support us and all of the other small businesses who are in our position is to continue to patronize our businesses while we’re waiting this out.
Please stay safe, keep your distance and wash your hands! We will be in touch with more information as it comes.

P.S. The CDC has stated that washing your hands with plain old soap and water (for at least 20 seconds) is the most effective defense against viral illnesses, even over hand sanitizer. You can read more about that here.
